Blackhaine, born Tom Heyes, is an English experimental musician, rapper, and choreographer known for his abrasive, visceral blend of experimental hip hop, industrial, electronic, and drill music, often incorporating performance poetry. His work is characterized by physically demanding choreographed dances, inspired by Japanese butoh, which explore themes of northern English deprivation, angst, and social realism. In his career, Blackhaine has collaborated with notable artists such as Playboi Carti, for whom he has choreographed world tours and Donda listening parties, and Kanye West. He has also worked with Blood Orange, Iceboy Violet, and Space Afrika, featuring on their 2021 album "Honest Labour." His discography includes EPs like "Armour," "And Salford Falls Apart," and "Armour II." Recent endeavors include his immersive performance "And Now I Know What Love Is," which premiered at the Manchester International Festival 2025 and was staged at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam in June 2026. This multi-disciplinary show combines music, text, and choreography to delve into themes of love, despair, and connection against post-industrial backdrops. Blackhaine also played the lead role in the 2023 BBC Film/BFI short film "Moon Under Water" and mentioned shooting a Western-inspired short film in early 2024. An upcoming event includes his participation in "Overmono presents Pure Devotion - World Tour" in Manchester on October 30, 2026.
