About Black Coffee

Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, is a Grammy Award-winning South African DJ, record producer, and songwriter celebrated for his distinctive sound that blends afro house, afro tech, and house music with elements of R&B, jazz, and traditional African influences. His career, spanning nearly two decades, gained significant international recognition after his participation in the Red Bull Music Academy in 2004 and the release of his self-titled debut album in 2005 on his own Soulistic Music label. In recent endeavors, Black Coffee continues to be a prominent figure in the global electronic music scene. He executive produced Drake's 2022 album "Honestly, Nevermind" and co-wrote and co-produced three songs on it. He also kicked off 2022 with a triumphant Grammy Award win for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his 2021 album 'Subconsciously'. Looking ahead, Black Coffee is scheduled to lead an electrifying 2024 season at Hï Ibiza with a residency from May 18 to October 5, 2024, delivering his unique fusion of South African roots and innovative Afropolitan beats every Saturday. He is also slated to take on the role of Executive Music Producer in director Hicham Hajja's upcoming film 'God Is A DJ' and has a packed touring schedule with dates extending into late 2025 and early 2026 across various global locations. Beyond his music, Maphumulo supports local charities in South Africa through music and education and aids aspiring entrepreneurs via his company Flight Mode Digital.
