Barry Can't Swim, the stage name of Edinburgh-born Joshua Mainnie, is a Scottish electronic music producer and DJ known for his jazz house sound, blending global influences with a progressive approach that incorporates elements of jazz and electronica. His emotive and melodic productions, often featuring piano, guitar, and drums alongside dance beats, have garnered him a dedicated fanbase. In recent endeavors, Barry Can't Swim released his highly anticipated second album, "Loner," on July 11, 2025, via Ninja Tune. Described as a "personal" and "authentic expression" reflecting his life over the past year, the 12-track project delves into introspection, nostalgia, and vibrant energy, pushing the boundaries of his sound. Singles from "Loner" include "Still Riding," "The Person You'd Like To Be," "Different," "Kimpton" (with O'Flynn), "About To Begin," "Cars Pass By Like Childhood Sweethearts," and "All My Friends." His debut album, "When Will We Land?", released in October 2023, was critically acclaimed, charting at #12 in the UK Albums Charts, winning BBC Radio 1's "Best Dance Album" award, and receiving a nomination for the Mercury Prize in 2024. He was also nominated for Best Dance Act at the 2024 Brit Awards and won the DJ Mag 'Breakthrough Producer' award in December 2023. Barry Can't Swim has had a significant touring presence, performing at major festivals such as Coachella and Glastonbury in 2024, and is set to headline All Points East in London on August 22, 2025, and perform at NOS Alive'25 on July 10, 2025. He also launched his record label, Earth's Own Paradise, in October 2024. He frequently performs with a six-piece live band, complementing his DJ sets.
