Balmorhea is an American minimalist instrumental duo, and sometimes a six-piece ensemble, formed in Austin, Texas, in 2006 by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller. Their music is categorized within the post-rock genre, blending elements of folk, classical, jazz, Americana, ambient, and minimal music to create textured, atmospheric soundscapes. Known for their gentle, often orchestral approach, their sound prominently features piano, acoustic guitars, and strings. Their latest album, "Pendant World," was released in 2023 on Deutsche Grammophon. This album expanded their sound by incorporating found sounds, samples, vinyl recordings, synthesizers, brass, and flutes, in addition to their core instrumentation, and features a range of guest artists. Prior to "Pendant World," Balmorhea released "The Wind" in 2021, which included earlier singles issued under Deutsche Grammophon. They also released a live album, "The Wind – Live in Marfa," in 2022. A soundtrack album, "The Trap," is listed for release in 2025.
