Azis, born Vasil Troyanov Boyanov, is a prominent Bulgarian recording artist of Romani ethnicity, known for his unique blend of folk pop and chalga, a Bulgarian rendition of pop-folk. He is recognized for his extravagant persona, atypical gender expression, and powerful vocals. Throughout his career, Azis has collaborated with numerous Bulgarian pop-folk and rap artists, as well as singers from the former Yugoslavia. He gained international attention after performing "Let Me Cry" at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 with Mariana Popova. Beyond his music, Azis has also been a television show host and an activist for sexual and ethnic minorities. In terms of recent endeavors, Azis announced in January 2023 that he was expecting his third child, a son, at the age of 44, further expanding his family. More recently, as of October 2024, he continues to be a superstar in Southeast Europe and the Balkans, openly discussing his identity as an openly gay Romani folk-pop singer and advocating for minorities. A new music video was released around that time, garnering over two million views within days.
