About Aswad

Aswad is a long-standing British reggae group, formed in West London in 1975, renowned for their distinctive fusion of roots reggae, dub, lovers rock, reggae pop, and ragga with strong R&B and soul influences. The band has released 21 albums and is recognized for hit singles like "Don't Turn Around" and "Shine," and has received three Grammy Award nominations. Tragically, Angus "Drummie Zeb" Gaye, the band's lead vocalist and drummer, passed away on September 2, 2022, at the age of 62. Despite this profound loss, Aswad, featuring bassist and vocalist Tony Gad, released a new album titled 'Live In London' in 2024 and is scheduled to perform at the Uptown Festival in Cardiff, Wales on September 15, 2024. The group also has plans for further new music releases in 2024 or 2025.
