AFTERDRIVE is an Ipswich-based indie-rock and alt-pop band formed in late 2022, composed of brothers Ben Watts (vocals) and Joe Watts (drums), alongside Luke Ellis (lead guitar) and Edward Ruff (bass). Known for their melodically crafted pop and strong indie-tinged musicianship, their sound is often described as distinct, bold, anthemic, catchy, and polished, blending influences from bands like The 1975 and Oasis. The band has had a significant impact in a short time, receiving regular airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Radio X for tracks such as "Often" and "Cars". A major highlight of 2025 was opening for Ed Sheeran at Portman Road Stadium in their hometown, an experience they described as a surreal career highlight, and performing at Latitude Festival on the BBC Introducing stage. In late 2025, AFTERDRIVE released their single 'Necklace' (November 5, 2025), which is the first of new music leading to their eagerly anticipated debut EP, set to be released in 2026. Their recent endeavors for 2026 include headlining The Waterfront Studio in Norwich on January 31st as part of Independent Venue Week, and they plan a special return to Ipswich later in the year. The band's live performances are noted for their energy and passion, consistently turning casual listeners into dedicated fans.
